The phone system in the rectory has been replaced with what is called a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) system. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows us to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. The phone system we had been using up until recently was twenty years old and is not working well. We expect this new phone system to be a significant improvement to our communications system.
The new phone system allows us to have an emergency line that will go directly to Fr. Andy or Fr. Matt. It is important for you and for the priests to share the understanding of what defines an emergency.
An EMERGENCY is defined ONLY by the following circumstances: • a parishioner is near death • a parishioner has been rushed to Overlook Hospital (presently, there is no Catholic priest on staff there)
Calling the emergency line for any other reason may be a hindrance to someone else calling who is in a true emergency situation. ALL OTHER INQUIRIES must be addressed during normal business hours or by visiting our website, stbnj.org. In order to reach the emergency line:
• Call our office number: (908) 322-5192 • Dial "2" during normal office hours • Dial "1" outside of office hours. The operator will direct you to the correct extension.
Please note also that the staff phone extensions have changed. All extensions are listed on the staff page, or there is a directory within the phone system that will help you reach the correct extension when you dial our office number. The front desk extension for Mass cards, baptisms and general information is "1".
