Many today speak about the “political crisis” the nation faces in the myriad of issues that we confront. Others speak about the “spiritual crisis”. I believe these are deeply connected. The biggest questions we face like poverty, prejudice, the ethics of war, the controversial life issues, and the breakdown of family and community are ultimately connected to moral and spiritual choices. We need to see the vital connection between spirituality and everyday issues. There is in our society today a disregard for God as our Creator. Our country has strayed from God as its center, and in doing so it has become insensitive to the value of ALL life. Our nation was founded on the principle that all human beings are “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” To be a people of life, a people of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we must embrace and honor all life in all these issues and in all instances. All life is sacred! Life is a “seamless garment”, from conception to natural death. No human person ought ever to be beyond our care and concern, our mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. Why? Because we are the ones who call ourselves Christians – Christ-followers. We are certain from the Scriptures that no human being was ever beyond Christ’s care and concern; his mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. Therefore, as disciples of Christ no human being ought ever to be beyond our care and concern; our mercy compassion and forgiveness. - Fr. Andy Prachar
